Dead Bear Cub Covered with Obama Posters

This is cetainly not getting news coverage in the United States.

A dead bear cub draped in Barack Obama posters has been found at the entrance to a university in North Carolina, police said today.

Police and wildlife officials are investigating the incident at the Western Carolina University.

Maintenance workers found the 34kg (75lb) bear cub in front of the administration building at the entrance to the campus.

It had been shot, and Obama posters were stapled together and placed over its head.

"Someone evidently was wanting to draw attention to the election," Tom Johnson, the chief of university police, told the Asheveille Citizen's Times newspaper.

"If we find out who they are, we'll make sure they'll get some attention themselves."

Leila Tvedt, a spokeswoman for the university, said the institution "deplores the inappropriate behaviour that has led to this troubling incident".

"We cannot speculate on the motives of the people involved [oh, really?], nor who those people might be," she added.

"Campus police are cooperating fully with authorities to investigate this matter."

University police asked state wildlife officials to remove the dead cub and help in the investigation.

The bear hunting season in North Carolina began last week.

I can speculate as to the motivation:

The motivation seems pretty clear to me.

Hi, I was just calling to let you all know that Barack Obama needs to get hung. He's a fucking nigger, and he's a piece of shit. You guys are fraudulent, and you need to go to hell. All the niggers on oak trees. They're gonna get all hung honeys, they're gonna get assassinated, they're gonna get killed."

"You liberal idiots. Dumb shits. Welfare bums. You guys just fucking come to our country, consume every natural resource there is, and make a lot of babies. That's all you guys do. And then suck up the welfare and expect everyone else to pay for your hospital bills for your kids. I just say let your kids die. That's the best move. Just let your children die. Forget about paying for hospital bills for them. I'm not gonna do it. You guys are lowlifes. And I hope you all die."

Wow, way to fight eugenics from the "Darwinists," you assholes. Way to fight the next "Holocaust" that a bunch of science teachers are going to foist on our society. Right.

I volunteered for ACORN way back in the 1990s. Do your worst. (Shrug.)

Hard to imagine how doing something like this would not get you very cozy with the FBI.

Southern hospitality not withstanding, the "hunters" will probably end up in a Federal pen somewhere. Hopefully one that is teeming with horny bears. LOL

It would seem that the video you posted here has been removed by You Tube.

Here is a TV news report from a local station.

It seems that it was a black bear.

Yeah, that video got removed from Ed's blog, too.

Poor baby bear! That's poaching. Why do people kill animals to punish people for no reason at all?

I just gave WWF gobs of $$ and "adopted" three animals because of this story. It's ugly. This is the ugliest campaign so far and it's completely unnecessary.

Okay, somebody, tell me how Obama's supporters are doing things "just as bad." Of course I know McCain doesn't condone this crap, but he's been silent while Palin's stutting her stuff.

Woman can't shimmy worth a damn, either.

I just want to say, as a conservative, I find this DISGUSTING. I hope these people are found and prosecuted and sent to jail for a LOOOOONG time. I am so sick of having a-holes like this make *me* feel embarrassed to be a conservative. I left the GOP party years ago b/c of what they were becoming, and actions like these make feel like I'll never be going back, at least not until every single politician who supports this kind of BS is dead or expunged from public service. Just know this, all who are readin, there are many like me--many people who, though we may not be voting for Obama, wish him only the best if he wins b/c he will be our President too, and if we have disagreements with him, we will use WORDS to express those and we will not be so cowardly as to hide our faces like these evil bastards did. I'm just sick over this, please don't think we're all this way :(

No, of course you're not all that way. I know some hunters who are probably sick at heart over this, too. Poor little thing. Naturally, whoever gets into the White House will have to put up with my letters and suggestions, so by all means wish him the best! (And that includes Obama if he keeps repeating this anti-vaxer position on autism.)

Well...I was just reading Harper's, which says there have been more vitriolic elections in history: Thomas Jefferson paid people to call John Adams a "hideous hermaphroditical character" (wha?), Davy Crockett called Martin Van Buren a cross-dresser ("He is laced up in corsets" - I think I remember reading something about that), Rutherford Hayes accused Samuel Tilden of picking up a prostitute, and Tilden countered that Hayes got drunk and shot his own mother. Jebus!

I saw Bob Barr on Jim Lehrer the other night; smart guy, agree with him on some things, especially the economy but not other things.

Unfortunately, I work for a defense contractor and there are plenty of wing nut militaristic conservatives spewing out all the Limbaughesque trash and all of it is very false. They seem to a few things in common - they have families, have been in the military and are practicing Christans. What a bunch of extremely narrow minded people. I can't start a conversation about politics without them immediately falling into a groove and sounding like parrots like some unseen force is moving their mouths and manipulating their vocal chords. There are some people who have their own opinions, but I don't hear them speaking up very much. My concern is that the managers are pretty much all robots this way and if you criticize the Bushies, you are likely to get axed in the next RIF. I rather keep my brain than my job.

CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) — Authorities said Tuesday that a student prank, not a political statement, was the motivation for dumping a dead bear cub draped in Barack Obama signs on a North Carolina campus earlier this week.

Seven Western Carolina University students were involved, and possible charges were being discussed with the local prosecutor, said Campus Police Chief Tom Johnson. Police did not release the students' names.

The students told authorities they took political signs at random to cover the bear's wound and prevent blood from spilling into the bed of the truck they were driving.

They discovered a carcass of the cub, which had been shot in the head, while camping over the weekend and brought it back to a gathering at an apartment near campus Sunday night, according to a statement from the school.

It was during that gathering, officials said, that a student suggested placing the bear at the base of a statue at the main entrance to the campus.

Maintenance workers found the bear cub's body early Monday morning near the school's entrance.

"I am pleased to hear that this situation appears to be a stupid prank," Western Carolina chancellor John W. Bardo said.

I really don't buy that. It's like saying: I had some extra matches laying around and I decided to use them up so I grabbed some old rag laying around that just "happened" to be the US Flag and I used up the matches - it wasn't anything political or anything.

That does leave a lot of questions. If they were grabbing posters at randon, why was there not McCain/Palin posters included. And for that matter, posters for local campaigns.

If they found the bear carcass over the weekend, it would seem that there would have been a rather unpleasant stench.

It seems that ripped boxes wo0uld have been better to soak up blood. (From a two day old carcass?)

Why would there have been posters at a camping site remote enough to find bears?

I'm wondering what the hell a baby bear is doing in the woods in the autumn.

Killing baby deer/bears is poaching, but usually there are no little ones when season opens (that's why we have hunting seasons), and bear season just opened down there.

If it was from a zoo, we'd hear (hopefully) about the missing animal. So where did it come from?

And what cretin shoots a baby bear and leaves it, or claims they "found" it this way and drags it to campus? I just don't get it. It doesn't add up.

I think they really found a dead bigfoot baby and they mistook if for a black bear. That explains the seasonal disconnect - also, figfoots might be using campaign signs to line their hovels - or what ever they stay in (must be underground since no one seems to have found one yet)But here is your proof of bigfoot carcasses you all have been waiting for all along. Prove me wrong.

I consider myself an independent politically, but I have a tendency to lean more right than left. I had considered posting a somewhat tongue-in-cheek jab at liberals, but then I read those excerpts you quoted: vulgar, vitriolic outpourings of a couple of cracker rednecks, who should only die themselves to reduce the surplus population.

In some circumstances, procrastination is the best policy. Dyed-in-the-wool liberals would not have thought my unrecorded remarks at all humorous. Those remarks are better left unsaid, inasmuch as I truly do not dislike liberals. Many of them are good friends of mine. I just don't agree with thir policies in many instances.
